英語で何かを比べるとき、基本となるのが「原級」「比較級」「最上級」の3つの形です。

• 原級 (as ... as ~): 「〜と同じくらい...だ」
• 比較級 (-er ... than ~ / more ... than ~): 「〜よりも...だ」
• 最上級 (the -est ... / the most ...): 「最も...だ」

短い単語には -er / -est を、長い単語(目安として3音節以上)には more / the most をつけます。

• My brother is taller than me. / He is the tallest in my family.
• This book is more interesting than that one. / This is the most interesting book I have ever read.

比較級・最上級が不規則に変化する重要な単語です。必ず覚えましょう。

• good / well → better → best
• bad / ill → worse → worst
• many / much → more → most
• little → less → least

• The 比較級, the 比較級 (〜すればするほど、ますます…)
  The more you practice, the better you will become. (練習すればするほど、上手になります)
• 比較級 and 比較級 (ますます〜)
  It is getting hotter and hotter. (ますます暑くなっています)
• much / far + 比較級 (ずっと〜だ)
  He is much taller than me. (彼は私よりずっと背が高い)
